An initial open call for ideas for technical research projects closed in September 2018. Funds have been invested to review the small mixed WEEE protocol, an analysis of the extent of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in WEEE plastics and a review of EEE and WEEE flows in the UK economy. More information on these projects is available here. These projects will report their findings in early 2020.
A further call for technical research projects was launched in 2019.
Funds are being invested in local and community projects. See here for more information.
Funds will also be invested in communications and behaviour change programmes with spend spread across three years. In 2019 we embarked on a study to explore consumer attitudes to the recycling of e-waste. The study was run by market research specialists Ipsos MORI, and combined qualitative and quantitative research to provide insight into the current challenges that need to be overcome to support increased recycling of e-waste. We will confirm our plans for the communications and behaviour change programme in early 2020.
